Hair styles in the 1800's...

Borrowed from ("Hairstyles from the 1800's")

I was reading a book the other day and read a line that said "Back in the old days women wore long hair to show their submission, and femininity..." ....I was very curious about this, so I researched it, and even thought the web-site I got it from was that of a hair stylist,I found it pretty interesting....I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! :)

: In the 19th Century (1801 ad-1900 ad), most women had long hair. Waist-length tresses were not uncommon, and longer hair was easily found due to the fact that cutting women’s hair was something done only as a necessity. Long hair was considered a mark of femininity.

Young women and girls were often seen wearing their long tresses in braids, or long cascading ringlet curls. Older women often wore their hair braided and coiled atop their heads or puffed up into a pompadour in front with coiled braids at the back, French-style twists pinned loosely along the nape and crown, or puffed hair that is wound into a loose bun at the crown area. These styles would be accented with wispy ringlets at the temples and in front of the ears, or with pin curls at the sides.

Bangs, when worn, were typically uniformly cut horizontal lines across the forehead just above the brow, and if worn by older women could often be seen curled into tight, kinky coils.

The best way to understand the looks available is to remember the styling options. There were no hot rollers, curling irons or blow dryers. Combs, brushes, and rag rollers were the tools most commonly found, and hair products consisted of waxes, pomades, and lotions. The most common styling techniques were finger waves, pin curls, braids and teasing or ruffing (teasing with a brush).

Now, I have nothing against short hair, but I wonder if anyone these days knows that it was considered a rebellion to cut your hair short...and often when it was done, it brought disgrace upon ones family, if not done out of necessity. (you might have already guessed that my hair is pretty long.)   :-) And as I already said, I have nothing against short hair.....:) I don't think people do it for the same reasons as back then...: )

It was just really fun to think about! :D
Tell me what you think about it!

My verse of the day...

Psalms 7:3-5                                                                                                                                        "Lord my God, if I am at fault in this, if there is guilt on my hands, if I have repaid my friend with evil, I spared even those who hated me without cause.
Then let my enemy pursue and overtake me, trample my life to the ground, and leave me dishonored in the dust."

From now on, I think I will just post a verse of the day...and let you come to your own conclusions... :D

Another good Bible verse!

“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asks receives; and he that seeks finds; and to him that knocks it shall be opened.” – Matthew 7:7-8

This Bible verse  is  very encouraging to those that would seek after Christ and strive to honor Him! When we see this verse in the Bible often we think that all we have to do is ask and we shall receive...although the Bible says that Christians that ask shall receive it does not say that the whole world will get what it asks for.. But for the true in heart who strive to be more Godly, this verse  is a re-assurance that God will grant us  what it is we ask for.. Only is we obey Him we He help us!..And we know that even from the begging  of the world God has been answering our prayers and giving us gifts! The greatest gift He could give us was our Salvation!! And He gives freely! :)

Yes! I have my own blog!

So I  know there can only be like 1 person reading this but soon I hope for there to be more than a thousand! :) Hey, a girl can dream can't she!? :)

To start  off  I'd like to tell you about my favorite Bible verse...Proverbs 3:5 "Trust in  the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understandings..." This is my  favorite verse because I think it is most instructive in that it reminds us to never think we know better than God, and to always be  humble...and to lean on God throughout our lives...I think if more people would look at this verse we would have a change in things these days...That's pretty much it! :)
